Young Artist Feature: Giselle Lee

Welcome back to our second instalment of Aureus Academy’s Young Artist Features!    

Today, we have Giselle (14), who is taking Piano lessons from Teacher Calvin at Aureus @ Jurong Point. Watch her jaw-dropping performance of the a pieces by Felix Mendelssohn: Songs Without Words Op. 30, No. 3 (“Consolation”).

After her brilliant performance, we sat down with Giselle and got to know more about her.

1. How long have you been playing the piano?    

G: I’ve been playing the piano since I was 6, so that’s 8 years.  

2. What do you love about playing the piano?    

G: I’m able to express myself through the piano. When I’m having a bad day or feeling stressed, I'll take a seat, start playing and feel happier. I'm also able to show people what I’ve learnt, so I feel a sense of achievement.  

3. What is your practice routine like?    

G: I’ll practice the piano for at least one hour every day and I spend more time on the challenging parts of the piece, so I’ll be more familiar with it. After I’m familiar with the song, I will take the time to add more phrases and dynamics to the song to make it more expressive.  

4. What advice would you have for other students who would like to master an instrument?    

G: I would advise them to take the time to practice so they can be more familiar with their instrument. And more importantly, to have the passion and motivation to play the instrument every day to practice and perfect their instrument.
