Young Artist Feature: Anokhi Parekh

Welcome back to another instalment of Aureus Academy’s Young Artist Features! This time, we showcase Anokhi (13), a voice talent studying under Teacher Ilina at Aureus @ Forum.

After her impressive performance, we had the chance to get to know Anokhi a little better! Join us as we explore her musical journey, uncover her inspirations, and hear firsthand how she has honed her craft.

1. How long have you been taking voice lessons?  

I have been taking voice lessons for about three years now.

2. What do you love about singing and performing?    

I love singing because it helps me to express myself. And there is a song for every emotion. So, even if I sang a sad song, I would feel happy afterwards because it is my way of expressing myself and getting my emotions out. I think it is creative and personal, so even if you are making your song or doing a cover, you would sing it differently to everyone else. So it is very personal, and I like that.    

3. What is your favourite song to perform?    

I like covering a lot of songs. They all make me happy. But I always circle back to ‘Arcade’ by Duncan Laurence.  

4. What is your practice routine like?    

So I take singing lessons once a week but, at lunchtime at school, I sometimes go to the music rooms with my friend, and we have a little band to jam out. When I come home from school, I go onto my balcony and sing - and I do that every day.

5. What advice would you have for other students who wish to master singing?    

I think you need to be confident and practice. If you could sing in front of others, that helps a lot because you can get advice - especially from a singing teacher. If you enjoy and practice something you love, you get better at it and go far.
