Top 10 Songs to Sing Your Heart Out to

Yes, we can no longer lock ourselves up behind karaoke room doors and shatter the glasses with our pals, but at least we still have the shower. When it comes to singing without an audience, we all love a little challenge, especially when there’s nobody to judge all the failures in hitting those high notes. That’s why we have compiled some of the best songs that you can sing your hearts out to in the comfort of your own home!

Adele – Rolling in the Deep

Although it’s been 10 years since the release of this popular song by Adele, it is undeniably one of those songs that will make a constant appearance on some karaoke playlist out there. With her vocal prowess, most Adele hits pose a challenge for the common folk. Yet, we somehow just can’t help ourselves from attempting the addictive falsetto line in the chorus of this particular track.

Sia – Chandelier

The chorus of this one just keeps going higher, and 9 out of 10 people who try to sing this will probably run out of breath before approaching the midway mark. Still, it is one of those songs that is as tempting to sing as much as it is challenging. Honestly, most people would not be able to get the melody out of their heads once they have heard it.

Frozen – Let it Go

Before How Far I’ll Go from Moana, this was the Disney hit song that rose to fame alongside its wildly successful Disney princess film. From the moment of its release, adults and children alike could be heard singing the catchy lyrics of this song literally everywhere you went. It has undeniably been added to the list of Disney princess classics, and is a popular song that many students taking vocal lessons choose to pick up.

Wicked – Defying Gravity

For many people, Wicked might be their introduction to musical theatre, with “Defying Gravity” being its signature number which features a solo performance by the main character Elphaba. It is an emotionally-charged song about living with no limits, and a great piece to perform or just sing for fun!

Alicia Keys – If I Ain’t Got You

R&B tunes are probably one of the most fun songs to sing for their smooth lines and adlibs. This captivating track by Alicia Keys that is part-soothing and part-bittersweet is a wonderful option for those who love an emotional ride while singing. While the verses are a great chance to show off a strong lower register, the chorus truly lets you belt your lungs out.

Les Miserables – On My Own

Les Miserables is undoubtedly a heart wrenching musical, and this is one of the titles from it that will leave your heart in pieces. A solo piece sung by the character Eponine about her unrequited love, it is one that requires great expressivity and stamina, besides of course, the lung capacity to sustain the high note at the climax of the song.

Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody

With its stunning introduction that features a chorus of auto-tuned voices, one just can’t resist grabbing a bunch of friends in an attempt to form an impromptu acapella group to pull this song off. Unlike the conventional pop song with a repeated chorus, it consists of several segments with their own distinct colours, and this unpredictable quality makes this song both exciting and challenging to sing.

Katy Perry – Firework

In 2010, Katy Perry released amazing hits that became some of the greatest pop classics, and Firework was one of them. This energetic title that is arguably the artist’s signature song is such a great outlet to have fun and let go, with a highly catchy chorus and feel-good melody.

Journey – Don’t Stop Believin’

A song that was performed no less than six times on the popular musical drama series Glee, this 80s classic by American rock band Journey is a go-to for many singing fanatics. The true chorus of the song doesn’t come until towards the end, but somehow every other verse that comes before it is just as captivating. Whether you are keen to sing this with the original band backing-track, or try to come up with a semblance of the acapella version by the Glee cast, Don’t Stop Believin’ is bound to be a fun ride from start to end!

Aladdin – A Whole New World

Duets are always fun to sing because of the musical dialogues and harmonies, and this beautiful piece performed during Jasmine and Aladdin’s magic carpet ride contains some of the best duet compositions you can find.
