Exploring Music for Toddlers

For many of us, music has been an indispensable part of our lives since a young age. Learning languages and mathematics and science concepts have always been more effective with jingles. We have always known that music plays a big part in school, especially for younger children. However, not a lot of schools offer a specialised music exploration course in their curriculum.

Learning music at an early age has a lot of advantages, like cognitive development, better hand-eye coordination and improved academic performance. Music also helps children express themselves better and makes them all-rounders in the truest sense. With all these benefits, there is no doubt that we should expose children to music as young as possible.

Where do we begin?

Some parents may discover musical abilities in their toddlers, while some are keen on exposing them to music at the earliest given chance. The first question most parents have is “How do I expose my toddler to music?” The easiest way to do so is to make them listen to good music. Having music playing in the house is a great way to pique a toddler’s interest. Their music listening experience should not be limited to just common nursery rhymes.

Music-making, or music in general has always been a collaborative activity. Art and Music have been used through the ages as a form of recreation to bring people together. Despite the tremendous progress humanity has made, the purpose of music has remained the same. Hence, most musical activities are best done together! Listening to music together as a family encourages bonding time and will give your child memories that will last a lifetime!

Another way to introduce music into your toddler’s life is by encouraging them to play percussion instruments like tambourines and hand-held drums. These instruments are easy to hold, and are instinctive to play. If you are still unsure of where to begin, you can always bring your child to Aureus Academy for a free music exploration trial lesson!

Music Exploration at Aureus

At Aureus Academy, we have a course specially designed for toddlers that exposes them to the world of music. It is a preparatory course for children between the ages of 2.5 and 4 that teaches them the basics of music and prepares them for formal instrument lessons. In Music Exploration classes, we introduce musical concepts in a fun-filled way.

Colourful desk-bells, xylophones, tambourines and shakers are some of the instruments used in Music Exploration classes. These instruments help develop the student’s aural, rhythmic and playing skills. Pitched instruments like the bells and the xylophone facilitate in teaching aural skills. Allowing your child to understand pitch, high and low sounds and the concept of melody. While, the non-pitched percussive instruments are to understand the ideas of rhythm, tempo and beat.

Music and movement go hand in hand. The best way to imbue most musical concepts in toddlers is by encouraging movement activities, since your body is also an instrument! During the lesson, teachers include a lot of activities that encourage the student to use their body Music Exploration students also have the opportunity of showcasing their performance at student recitals that take place at Aureus Academy! Recital performances are not only a measure of progress, but also an important tool to build confidence, public speaking skills and teach them teamwork.

Why Aureus?
