Best Christmas Songs to Spend the Holiday With

Season’s greetings! It’s the most wonderful time of the year again, filled with good food, cheer and not to forget – music! Christmas music never fails to give off that warm and fuzzy feeling, and here are just some of our favourite classics that never fail to turn on the festive mood!

All I Want For Christmas is You

A modern-day classic that has made its way to the top charts of the best Christmas songs among all the age-old classics, this up-tempo love song was co-written by Mariah Carey herself! With its relatable lyrics and catchy melody, it is no wonder that it became a worldwide hit with multiple remakes since its original release and continues to be heard on radios and in malls every year when the holiday season rolls around.

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow

While we will never get to witness the magic of snowfall here in sunny Singapore, it is easy to let our imaginations run wild with this joyful classic that paints a cosy and romantic picture of a couple staying inside during the winter season. Fun fact: This song was written by Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn during a heat wave in California back in 1945 where they had imagined cooler weather! How fitting then, for us to be enjoying the song in a tropical country!

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

This Christmas song composed and written by Meredith Wilson in 1951 has seen many renditions throughout the years, and Michael Bublé’s laidback take of it is one of the more popular ones today. This modern version of the song just creates such a warm sense of nostalgia that is well associated with the season of returning home to be with family and friends.

Sleigh Ride

Originally a light orchestral piece composed by Leroy Anderson, lyrics describing various wintertime activities were later added by Mitchell Parish, turning it into a well-loved Christmas song. Also, it seems like the best winter music is often written in the middle of a heat wave, because Anderson just so happened to have come up with the idea for this piece during one too!

White Christmas

The thought of Christmas never fails to remind one of a dreamy scene covered in sparkling white snow, as described in this classic by Irving Berlin. While it is a little disappointing to know that it may only be a dream for some of us in Singapore, the beautiful melodic line in this calm and peaceful classic will always warm the heart. We hope that listening to this little Christmas playlist has helped to add a touch of festive spirit to your life this holiday season! You can always trust music to be your best companion whether you are doing some last-minute gift wrapping or putting up Christmas decorations at home to welcome family and friends!
